The I Jornadas de Patrimonio Musical (first Musical Heritage Conferences) organized by the University of Barcelona (UB) and the Consell Superior d'Investigacions Científiques (CSIC) took place on 5 and 6 May in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Geography and History.

We were invited to present our study Search and documentation of pianos before 1850 in Catalonia. A musical heritage project. This study was born as a project within the Muzio Clementi Association of Barcelona and aims to document and census the pianos that can be found in Catalonia in order to protect a heritage that is important for cultural memory and it can be a source for further scientific research.

In my presentation I explained the general lines of the project and the pianos we have studied, which, so far, are thirty-four. The presence of the 1847 Collard & Collard grand piano, late Clementi, Collard & Collard, recently restored by the AMCB, allowed one of the instruments studied within the project to be heard live. Marina Rodríguez Brià performed a movement from a sonata by Muzio Clementi, which closed the morning session with a good practical example of what the recovery of musical heritage can mean.
